Best ways to treat cracked nails

Wondering what causes cracking your nails ? Even something as common as harsh shampoos or other hair products in contact with your hands may be responsible .
They are unsightly , uncomfortable and sometimes painful , but before you can take care of your nails cracked , it is useful to understand what is and is not causing the problem . Approximately 20 percent of the population have brittle nails - women and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to this condition . Many people mistakenly conclude that they need to increase their amount of gelatin or they should turn to iron supplements to prevent splitting . Truth be told , cracked nails are often the result of an external problem : regular nail polish or nail polish remover , a lot too much time swimming or soaking hands in water .

How often do you splurge pedicures?

To me, getting a pedicure is like going out and buying myself a enounce. It's not something I do on a regular basis, but it's something I love to do when I can. Getting a pedicure with a girlfriend makes it even better. Sitting and gabbing while getting pampered is one of life's small money.
I splurged on a pedicure a buckle weeks ago and was so unpromising in the treatment. I was at the mall shopping, and thought I'd sneak into one of the mall's fast paced nail salons. Bad idea. Now, many times you can get a good pedicure at a fast paced nail salon, but I've been unpromising the last couple of times I've gone into a walk-in place. Not only did I sit so long waiting that my water got cool, he barely wiped my feet and done forgot to put on any moisturizer!
Two of my lesson of the day is sure to get your friends recommendations when it comes to trying out new restaurants, and when in doubt, give yourself a leg. It's easy to do, and the cost of a pedicure and head, you'll get all the products that you need to give yourself more toenails. Go to the dollar store and buy food for foot soaking tub perfect bowl.

Get A Pedicure

It is not often I get to pamper myself with a pedicure, but I decided to the other day because my feet were in some pretty rough shape. So I called my nail tech, Melissa, and she fit me in for noon.
How good of a pedicure you receive depends on where you go. And you need to be careful because the horror stories of those ladies who did not choose wisely and wound up with fungal infections on their feet (or even their hands!) from improper sterilizing techniques seems to grow each year! I don’t know about you, but the thought that I may be putting my feet in a foot bath immediately after someone else and that their foot issues may still be floating around in the tub well, it's just plain disturbing.
When choosing a salon or spa to go to for your pedicure, it is probably wise to take a personal look around the area where you live or where you work, if you planned to go from the office because if you can see the spa in action, you will generally get a feel for their hygiene practices. From that point, of course, price is important but should not be your only deciding factor. How are you greeted when you enter the facility? Do you get a smile and a warm welcome, or are you met with a heavy sigh and sagging shouldered boredom. Believe me I have seen both and the former is much better than the latter.
When you arrive for your appointment, you will likely take a seat for a moment or two so your technician can get the foot bath set up for you. The foot tub, which has jets in it, is normally ½ to ¾ full, with some kind of suds to aid in the cleaning of your feet while they soak. The average foot soak time is 20-30 minutes. Then, you will normally get your toenails cut and trimmed, along with the cuticles, and then filed and buffed. Next, your technician will grab a big, wide file made for use on the body and the feet and begin filing your heels, arches, and the balls of your feet wherever there is dry, rough skin on your feet and toes. All this time, the jets in the foot bath are still going.
Next step you will receive a foot scrub. Each foot will come out of the tub, one at a time, for the application of the foot scrub. The scrub encompasses the feet, ankles, shins, and about halfway up the calves. The scrubbing is an all over thing, with heavier concentration where the skin may still need to be exfoliated a bit more. Then she’ll rinse your feet in the tub for a minute or two. At that time, both feet will come out of the tub they may have some stray suds on them but she will dry them off for you.
Now is the time for the foot and ankle massage. This is one of the nicest parts of the pedicure, and the one that makes the feet feel so soft. This process should usually take 5-10 minutes and encompass the entire foot and ankle area, although the softening lotion is usually applied halfway up the shin and calf area, just like the scrub was.
Once she completes the foot lotion and massage, it will be time for the hot towel application. That part feels so nice! It is a short step, like 5 minutes or less, but still wonderful.
And the end, it is the time for the application of whatever nail color you choose. The nail tech will put a couple of toe separators on your feet, although not all people need them. I am one of those that do. Some women choose a color, others choose a French manicure which looks really elegant if you have some function to go to and you want your toes to look nice but the choice is ultimately yours. For my pedicure, I chose pink this time. I normally am not a pink person and I do not own any pink clothing, but I do like the color pink itself just not how it looks against my skin. But it seems to work on my feet, so there you go.
Once your base coat, polish and top coat have been applied, she will likely put a pair of disposable flip-flops on your feet to allow you to walk across the salon and wait for your toenails to dry before you drive home.
People, believe me when I say that a pedicure, that I once swore I would never get because the thought of anyone touching my feet really grossed me out, is one of the nicest and most soothing things you can do for your body. When your feet feel good, you feel good. Or you can go to nail salon and sitdown pedicure chair, nail salon will help you care your nail.

Hangnail Tips

Many of us take advantage of our nails. We bite them, rip them and use them as tools. And when something minor goes wrong we often don't know what the problem is.
An ingrown nail is a nail that grows into the surrounding skin, causing pain, swelling and redness. A hangnail, on the other hand, doesn't actually have anything to do with the nail itself. Hangnails are those triangular-shaped bits of skin that sometimes develop on the sides of your fingernails.

Common causes of hangnails:
Dry skin
Cold, dry winter climate
Overexposure to harsh chemicals
Frequently immersing your unprotected hands in water
Hangnails can be dry, brittle and can cause skin tearing if left untreated or if treated improperly. The best way to remove a hangnail isn't to bite or tear it off. First, soften your hands in a warm water soak for a few minutes and then carefully clip off the hangnail with cuticle scissors. Continue to moisturize the area, and cover with a bandage if needed.

The simple way to help prevent hangnails from happening in the first place is to stock up on moisturizer and use it: Rub lotion, hand cream or cuticle oil into your nails, cuticles and the surrounding skin at least two to three times a day. Regular manicures can also be good for your nail health, just remember that pushing cuticles back is healthier than cutting them.

If you tend to have hangnails, it's also time to stop biting your nails. Nail biting can cause damage to the nail bed -- the skin beneath your nail -- and ups your risk of having hangnails. It also increases your risk of having infected hangnails. If your hangnail or surrounding area swells or becomes red or filled with pus, it could signal an infection, usually a condition called paronychia.

Paronychia can be caused by bacteria, yeast or fungus, and as with any sign of infection, should be treated by a health care professional. You can go to nail salon to care it, in nail salon will have all nail tools : pedicure chair, nail chair, dry, ... nail salon will care of your nail very careful.

How to Start a Nail Salon Business

1 Decide what kind of nail salon you would like to open. For instance, will your salon be mobile? Will the nail services be priced and designed for everyone or for only upscale clientele? Will you purchase a salon from someone or build from scratch? How big of a facility will you need, and what other services might you provide aside from nail care?

2 Decide what to name the salon. Check with the Secretary of State to see if the name you want already is registered by someone else. Register your salon name with the Secretary of State if no one else already has selected it. Your registration name also is known as "Doing Business As (DBA). Once you've registered, obtain your Federal Tax ID, register with the State Revenue Agency, and obtain your business permit from the state.

3 Write up a business proposal for the nail salon. Include information such as why your nail salon is needed, what it will cost, how you intend to operate it and how many nail technicians you'll employ.

4 Contact potential donors and funding organizations and use your proposal to obtain monies to cover your startup costs. Take out a loan from a bank or the Small Business Administration if needed.

5 Contact your local authorities and your State Board of Barbers and Cosmetology to find out what other permits and licenses you will need to operate the nail salon. File for those licenses and permits and obtain authorization to run the salon from these organizations. You cannot run a salon without this authorization without risk of shutdown or fines, so adhering to all state board rules and regulations is absolutely imperative.

6 Buy business insurance.

7 Order and install nail salon inventory such as chairs, tables, polishes, brushes, acrylics and dryers.

8 Place advertisements and conduct interviews to fill the nail technician positions for the salon. Hire only applicants that have a nail technician/cosmetology certificate and license, as most states require all nail technicians to have these credentials.

9 Prepare for the inspection of your nail salon that the State Board of Barbers and Cosmetology will conduct. Generally this inspection occurs just prior to the opening of the salon.

10 Advertise the grand opening of the salon. Place ads online or in newspapers, stand on the street and give out free samples of nail products or put up fliers with coupons. Contact anyone you know in the cosmetology/personal care industry who can get the word out, including hair stylists, dermatologists and makeup artists.

Yellow Nail Syndrome

What is it?

The nails of a client with yellow nail syndrome will have some or all of these characteristics: They will be thicker than normal and they may have a dark, greenish edge. They will grow slower than normal. A secondary result of the slow growth will be ridges or lines in the nails. There will be a pronounced, almost exaggerated curve to the nails. All the nails will be affected. Some of the nails may have onycholysis (separation of the nail plate from the nail bed), and the cuticle will be absent. In order to receive a medical diagnosis of yellow nail syndrome, two of these three conditions must be present: changes to the nails, chronic respiratory disorders, and primary lymphedema.

How do you get it?

While the exact cause of this condition is unknown, it has been shown to run in some families, which suggests a possible genetic component. Yellow nail syndrome is most often associated with health conditions involving lymphedema or diseases of the lung. Lymphedema is the swelling that occurs when a blockage in the lymphatic system prevents the lymph fluid in the arm or leg from draining adequately. Yellow nail syndrome may also be present in clients who suffer from pleural effusion. A membrane called the pleura lines our chest cavity and surrounds each of our lungs. When fluid accumulates between the layers of that membrane, pleural effusion occurs.

How is it treated?

Because it is not considered a distinct condition, no treatment exists for yellow nail syndrome. Under the care of a doctor, conditions such as lymphedema or respiratory problems that are present alongside yellow nail syndrome may have treatment options. These include physical therapy, prescription medications, or even natural alternatives. Yellow nail syndrome can clear up once the other condition has been treated.

What can a tech do?

If a doctor has confirmed the presence of yellow nail syndrome, a tech must determine the appropriate option for the client’s nails. Remember, a common result of yellow nail syndrome is onycholysis. If a client’s nails are separated from the nail bed, do not apply an enhancement. If the nails and skin are uncompromised, you can manicure or pedicure chair the nails and apply polish. Enhancements can be applied with care, but don’t jump to this option too soon. The nails will already have an exaggerated curve and extra thickness, so if the client isn’t a nail biter, a natural nail manicure may be the best choice for her.

What else?

If you suspect a client’s yellow nails results from yellow nail syndrome instead of the more traditional causes, such as staining from polish or smoking, take a few minutes to discuss the nails with the client. Be alert to symptoms such as swelling in the legs, hands, or arms. Other symptoms are trouble breathing, shortness of breath, or sharp pain associated with breathing. If appropriate, recommend that the client see a doctor. Yellow nail syndrome is a very rare condition, so more than likely she will return with a clean bill of health.

Buffing my nails

Your fingernails are a subtle but important part of the impression you leave with others. When you to work, borrow a pen or text a friend, they will probably going to notice your hands and nails. So whether you prefer manicured, polished nails or opt for a more natural look, you might want to consider buffing as part of your nail care routine.
Buffing, a nail care technique that involves rubbing lightly against the nail with a buffing board or cream, can make your nails shine and smooth out any uneven ridges in them. Also, some buffing treatments can provide health benefits to your nails, including stimulating blood circulation for healthy nail growth .

There are a few factors to keep in mind as you're deciding when to buffing your fingernails. First off, buffing too often or too vigorously can thin and weaken your nails. Therefore, you probably should buff your nails only about once a month. If your nails do not have ridges, or you use a colored nail polish and don't need to shine your nails, you can consider allowing a longer time between buffings.

Choosing a Safe Nail Salon

While you can certainly take care of your nails on at home, for special occasions or as a treat, a trip to the nail salon is in order. When you go to the salon to have your nails done, you might expect to come out with health, look for your nails. Unfortunately, the existence of unsanitary shops means you have to be careful when choosing where to go to get your nails done. A quick preliminary check can provide clues as to whether or not the salon of your choice is clean and safe.

Proper Nail Salon Licensing

Before you seat yourself in the pedicure chair, check for some basic credentials. At the very least, the nail salon should have a valid business license. It's also smart to ensure that the technicians have proper licensure to prove that they've undergone proper care and education to be competent enough to do your nails safely. If you don't see such licensure hanging on the walls, ask the receptionist for proof before you hand over your money and your nails.

Clean Nail Salons

The second facet of a safe salon is cleanliness. Certain areas of the salon should show basic signs of cleanliness, specifically each manicure station and pedicure tub. Each pedicure tub should be drained and clean after each use, so there shouldn't be standing water in any of the tubs. Don't be afraid to ask the salon owners how often tools are sterilized and when the stations are cleaned. If you notice tools being used on several clients at once, it's probably not a clean salon.

Clean Nail Salon Tools

Nail salons should use stainless steel tools that are sterilized with solution after each customer. Since you can't always guarantee that a salon owner is telling the truth about the frequency of tool cleaning, it's the safest bet to bring your own nail tools from home. That way, you ensure the tools are only used on you and you can keep them clean yourself. Any reputable salon should be happy to use your tools for your mani-pedi because they don't need to clean and sterilize their own tools after your
appointment.

How often should I cut my baby's nails?

Babies can easily endear themselves to adults, simply by wrapping their tiny fingers around the grown-up's thumb. On those tiny fingers, though, are tiny fingernails, which can grow all too fast for parents who are afraid of accidentally nicking their newborn during a nail-trimming session. But not attending to those nails salon introduces the risk that the baby might easily scratch himself. So, unpleasant as it might seem for both baby and parent, trimming the child's nails is a necessary task. But how often should it be done?

This is a common question for many parents. By the time your child is born, he already has soft, flexible nails that might be difficult to trim but can still leave behind scratches on his smooth skin. In general, as soon as your baby's nails grow out long enough to scratch himself or someone else, they need to be trimmed. Also, keeping your baby's fingernails clipped will do more than just protect his soft skin; it will also help prevent ingrown nails that could require a trip to the pediatrician. It might seem scary at first, but once you get the hang of clipping those nails, you probably won't dread the ritual as much as you once did.

As for how often you need to grab those clippers, it can vary based on how fast your child's fingernails grow. In general, you should make trimming your baby's nails a weekly or semiweekly routine [source: American Academy of Pediatrics]. For newborns, you might find you need to trim the nails more often to keep up with growth. Some doctors recommend not trimming nails during the baby's first few weeks, because they are so soft and flexible that nicking the skin is a risk. If this is the case, small baby mittens might prevent any scratching damage until the baby's nails grow stronger.

How Do I Choose the good Pedicure Chair

Pedicure chairs are built to massage a person's back as he or she receives a pedicure. Typically, the chairs have cupholders, magazine racks, and special jet streams that massage the feet. The upholstery on a pedicure chair can be an important item for a person to pay attention to, as most people don't want an unpleasant skin irritation as they get out of the chair. Controlled heat for the water can be an important factor, a person usually cannot be expected to place his or her put in water that is too hot or  cold. To choose the best chair, you most likely will need to keep all of these features .

An option that you might want to consider in your search is to observe as many chairs as you can in as many different salons as possible. Keep an eye out for customer discomfort as he or she steps into the chair. Also, observe the comfort and relaxation levels of the customer as he or she sits in the chair during the pedicure. An uncomfortable chair will help your nail salon.

If you are the owner of a spa or salon, you can usually find the best pedicure chair for your business on the Internet. While you might not be prepared to spend a fortune on getting a salon started, the choice of a pedicure chair typically should depend on what type of business you intend to have. If you are aiming to be a luxury-oriented spa, then you might consider purchasing a chair with more features; if you are only interested in high customer turnover, then you might consider a model with fewer options.

Salon owners whose main concern is turning over as many customers as possible in a given day might consider purchasing pedicure chairs that will help create a client base. Typically, owners will have to choose a chair based on cost. The number of pedicure chairs in these type of salons can range anywhere from two to 30, or more.

Not all pedicure chairs are created equal. Many of the lower-end chairs have piped tubs that have a history of not draining completely, thereby trapping residue from the previous pedicure. This type of chair can result in an environment that could promote infection. The best pedicure chair, no matter how ergonomic and comfortable, could chase customers away if they know it carries unsanitary water. unsanitary , your spa or salon will die.

How to Write a Business Plan for a Spa

Create a detailed business plan to give you a better understanding of the equipment and costs associated with opening a spa. Your business plan should include startup and monthly costs, description of services offered, licenses needed, marketing strategy and business insurance coverage necessary to fully cover your business. Use this business plan to guide you through each stage of business development to keep you on track and to prevent you from forgetting any important elements.

Step 1

Describe the types of spa services you plan to offer clients in the first section of your business plan. Typical spa services include hair styling, facials, body tanning, massage, eyebrow and body waxing or threading, makeup application, manicures and pedicures. You may also want to offer specialized services, such as hydrotherapy (whirlpool baths, water massage), electrolysis (body hair removal), body wraps and ear piercing. Describe the atmosphere you want to create for clients as well.

Step 2

List startup costs for spa equipment and monthly expenses, such as phone, Internet, rent, utilities, employee salaries and business insurance in the second section of your business plan. Include other items such as chairs, artwork, towels, bathrobes, candles, cleaning supplies. Contact local beauty equipment and supply stores to get estimates for spa equipment, such as spray tan machines, whirlpool bathtubs, massage tables, mirrors, hair cut stations, manicure tables and pedicure tubs. Include the cost of supplies needed to give facials, makeup applications, nail polish, nail care supplies and eyebrow waxing and threading. Use the information in this section to determine if you can afford to offer specific services. You may have to scale back some services and add additional services after your business begins to earn steady profits.

Step 3

List permits and licenses required perform spa services in your Area in the third section of your business plan. Contact the Area Department of Licensing and Regulation to learn more about the types of cosmetology licenses needed to offer services, such as manicures, pedicures, eyebrow waxing, threading and facials. Your business will be subject to inspections by the department, so it is important to have the necessary licenses to legally operate your business. Contact the Area Department of Health Services to learn more about applying for a massage therapy license. Other licenses include a business license and sales tax license to charge tax on items sold at the spa.

Step 4

List management positions, full-time and part-time positions needed to run your spa in the fourth section of your business plan. Determine how to pay employees by identifying which positions you plan to pay an hourly or salaried wage. If renting chairs to stylists, determine how much rent you plan to charge and how much you will allow stylists to charge for their services.

Step 5

Create a marketing strategy to attract clients in the fifth section of your business plan. Materials used to market your business include brochures, flyers, business cards and a website. Include spa services, contact information, hours of business and testimonials of satisfied clients on marketing materials and on the website. Join small business organizations, such as the Greater Houston Partnership, to meet small business owners, vendors and others in the community to promote your services. how to know your health with nails

Nails and Health: Read the Signs
Did you know your nails can reveal clues to your overall health? A touch of white here, a rosy tinge there, or some rippling or bumps may be a sign of disease in the body. Problems in the liver, lungs, and heart can show up in your nails. Keep reading to learn what secrets your nails might reveal.

1.Pale Nails
Very pale nails can sometimes be a sign of serious illness, such as:
Anemia
Congestive heart failure
Liver disease
Malnutrition

2. White Nails
If the nails are mostly white with darker rims, this can indicate liver problems, such as hepatitis. In this image, you can see the fingers are also jaundiced, another sign of liver trouble.

3. Yellow Nails
One of the most common causes of yellow nails is a fungal infection. As the infection worsens, the nail bed may retract, and nails may thicken and crumble. In rare cases, yellow nails can indicate a more serious condition such as severe thyroid disease, lung disease, diabetes or psoriasis.

4. Bluish Nails
Nails with a bluish tint can mean the body isn't getting enough oxygen. This could indicate an infection in the lungs, such as pneumonia. Some heart problems can be associated with bluish nails.

5. Rippled Nails
If the nail surface is rippled or pitted, this may be an early sign of psoriasis or inflammatory arthritis. Discoloration of the nail is common; the skin under the nail can seem reddish-brown.

6. Cracked or Split Nails
Dry, brittle nails that frequently crack or split have been linked to thyroid disease. Cracking or splitting combined with a yellowish hue is more likely due to a fungal infection.

7. Puffy Nail Fold
If the skin around the nail appears red and puffy, this is known as inflammation of the nail fold. It may be the result of lupus or another connective tissue disorder. Infection can also cause redness and inflammation of the nail fold.

8. Dark Lines Beneath the Nail
Dark lines beneath the nail should be investigated as soon as possible. They are sometimes caused by melanoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer.

9. Gnawed Nails
Biting your nails may be nothing more than an old habit, but in some cases it's a sign of persistent anxiety that could benefit from treatment. Nail biting or picking has also been linked to obsessive-compulsive disorder. If you can't stop, it's worth discussing with your doctor.

10. Nails Are Only Part of the Puzzle
Though nail changes accompany many conditions, these changes are rarely the first sign. And many nail abnormalities are harmless -- not everyone with white nails has hepatitis. If you're concerned about the appearance of your nails, see a dermatologist.

How to choose a spa

Do you need help choosing a spa? Spa treatments are not cheap so it pays to be fussy. With so many new spas popping up all over the UK offering hundreds of different treatments under the guise of hundreds of different names, it can be difficult to make a choice. Do you choose a day spa? A health spa? Or a wellness centre? What is the difference and how will your choice affect your spa experience? Take a moment to ask yourself the following questions:

What exactly do you want to achieve? First of all - why are you going to the spa? Are you looking for clear skin? Nail maintenance? A relaxing massage? Pain relief? Detox or relief from bloating? Weight loss? Different spas have different focuses. For instance, if you're looking for pain relief then you might want to choose a spa that offers a wider variety of massage rather than one that focuses on skin care.

Do you want health or indulgence? Some spas offer champagne and Belgium chocolates on arrival. Others offer gluten-free snacks and wheatgrass smoothies. To avoid disappointment you need to first decide whether you want the emphasis to be on health, or on indulgence. If you're looking for a detox then being offered chocolates and alcohol on arrival isn't going to do you much good. Similarly, if you're looking forward to a weekend wrapped in a big robe beside a chocolate fondue fountain, a smoothie and a gym programme probably isn't going to cut it.

Who will be going? Are you looking for some solitary pampering, a weekend away with your friends or some quality time with your partner? Different spas cater for different clientele. Some cater for the quieter, private customers, some encourage the celebratory spirit of hen and stag parties, and some are keen to entice couples in with his and hers robes and rose petals floating in the hot tub. The last thing you want is to be a solitary guest surrounded by loved up couples, or a hen party told to be quiet by other customers.

Do you have a budget? Not all spas cater for the super-rich. Whatever your budget, there should be a spa experience out there to suit you. Do you want no-frills service with one or two budget treatments, or the whole works with champagne, Michelin-star dining, butler service and a 24k gold facial?

What is a beauty professional?

A beautician is an individual who provides treatments for a wide range of beauty and grooming needs, including skin care, eyebrow and eyelash treatments, make-up, waxing, massage, nail care and male grooming. Beauty therapists can also advise on exercise and dietary control, and many are qualified to administer electrical treatments.
Beauticians usually work from a salon or spa but some are willing to visit a location of your choice to provide the treatment (including your home and office).
A qualified beautician/beauty therapist should also be able to recognise when a client needs referring to another professional e.g. a dermatologist for skin problems.
